The best songs

“Putting It Together” (from Sunday in the Park with George)

The Broadway Album opens with this patter song by Stephen Sondheim, who revised the lyrics to fit Barbra Streisand's desire to articulate in the song the endless conflict between art and commerce. Her performance —narrative, emotive, articulate, soaring, daring—is what vintage Streisand is all about.

“Stranger In A Strange Land”

Ms Streisand recorded the song in remembrance of the armed forces stationed in war-torn countries. The song is taken from Guilty Pleasures, Ms Streisand's 2005 project with British songwriter, singer, and producer Barry Gibb. The album reunites both artists twenty five years after collaborating on their highly-acclaimed Guilty project in 1980.
